Running Mavericks (10.9.4), Safari 7.0.6, 8GB Mac-Mini (mid-2011). When I click in a video window that displays the HTML5 box, sometimes the video loads and plays fine, but often it instantly reverts to an enlarged version of the upper left corner of the original screen. Here's a screenshot:
Has anyone found a cure for this?

Might be an incompatible Safari extension ...
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
That was it. I hit the jackpot on the first one I turned off, YouTubeWide.
