will a dead battery prevent an external power supply from booting a 2008 mac book pro?

My 2008 Mac Book Pro stopped booting. I did a SMC reset, A PRAM reset and still no response.

Finally I took the ? dead battery out and hooked up the power supply and tried turning the power on and still nothing! I see a green color at the end of the PS but the computer will not boot?

My Question is: Will the power supply normally boot this computer if the battery is removed? And what should I do next?

thank you very much.

Loner, I tried the reset and D, etc,. and boot, etc.Still no power or anything other than a green light at the computer plugin site!

Ogel Thorpe I bet you are correct? If so, my HD info. will be safe and I will need a new logic board? How much do you think this should cost and maybe I should use this towards a new Mac Book Pro?

Thanks so much to all of you for your quick replies and help!

More often than not the HDD will be intact. You can install it in an enclosure and connect it to another Mac and see if your data is still there.

Logic board replacements are expensive. I have seen them priced at $700-$800. You will be given an exact quote if that is found to be necessary. At the very east you will be in a position to make an informed decision.

Ciao.
