"Bulk" inserted on subject line of email

When I initiate an email on iphone 5 with current OS, before it's sent, (BULK) is inserted at the beginning of the subject line. These are personal emails to family and friends. I have no idea where this comes from or how to stop it, but emails I send go to recipient Bulk file.

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1.2, I use Avast anti virus

Thank you, Chris. I use ATT service. After a chat session with them, they suggested it was an iphone issue. So, I have reviewed iphone support and found nothing on the problem, and I have Googled the situation and found nothing. I have reviewed all settings in the phone and see nothing that could be causing this problem. The mystery to me is where does this designation originate: the phone, ATT, my Avast or Microsoft anti-virus, or someplace out in the web that has decided I'm a spammer?

Based on an article I read about another email problem that was corrected by deleting and then re-establishing the account on the iphone, I tried that this morning. I think it may have worked, but since my volume of emails is low, it will take some time to know for sure since I'm not sure exactly what triggers the (Bulk) label.

However, since I deleted and then re-established the email account on the iphone, it has stopped sending me bcc's of my sent mail. I went to settings, and the setting is correct, but I'm not getting them. Any thoughts on this one?

Again, I do not know of any setting on the phone that would affect this. Since anti-virus does not get loaded on the phone, that could not have anything to do with it either. As far as whether it comes from AT&T, if they were not aware of it, then I would not believe it is them. Is it that you use AT&T mail, or just AT&T for a cellular provider? The setting for Bcc is in the Mail settings area. If you have it on and it is not working, then try toggling it off and then back on again. When you begin a new mail message, you should be able to see if that is working by looking at the mail message and you could see your address in the Bcc section.

I've never heard of this being added to mail before, and my recommendation would have again been to delete and re add the account, which you have done. The only other alternative I would have would be to restore the phone first from a backup and if that does not correct it, then as a new device.

(Bulk) is added after I hit send. I know this because I have been bcc myself and it's on my cc when delivered but is not on msg in the "sent" file on the phone. I have my email account with ATT. When I initiate an email from Outlook on my laptop or directly from the ATT site on Yahoo, this does not happen. Also, I set up a gmail account on the iphone and initiated a msg and it did not happen. Talked with ATT again and they couldn't help. I'll continue to watch it and see it there is a pattern I'm missing. For instance, perhaps one domain of an addressee is adding it and then it gets attached to all. I don't know?

I tend to agree with KiltedTim. I believe this is more about the email account than the phone. What if you follow up with Yahoo instead of AT&T? See if they have more on the subject. Since you are not seeing it in the Sent folder of your mail, but seeing it in your inbox after it is going through the mail server, I have to believe it is on their end.

Look. All we can do is tell you that this is NOT a function of the phone.

The only reason I can think of that it would do that only when you send from your phone is if you have set up the account manually instead of setting it up as a Yahoo account, and it's using the wrong SMTP server. In that case the receiving server looks at it and says, 'hey, you say you are coming from a yahoo domain (which AT&T uses for email) but you actually originated from a server belonging to blahblah.com... We think you're a dirty stinky spammer'.

Remove the account from your phone. Set it up again as a Yahoo account.

More than likely the email server on the receiving end is marking it as bulk. I have my personal email servers set to mark the emails that i get with the word <SPAM> if it meets the requirements that i have setup in my spam filter on my email sever. If you send our self an email does it also put the word (bulk)?
