Aug 19, 2014 5:32 AM in response to JMSIEVby EZ Jim,(1) You should not need to use Windows on your Mac unless you want to do so.
I'm unsure what a "luminex camera" is, but you can probably use your Mac's iPhoto app with it.
Launching iPhoto and search iPhoto > Help for "import" (without the quote marks.)
If you're still having trouble, this article may give you some ideas:
iPhoto '11: Import photos or video from a digital camera
(2) You can only "download Windows" if you have bought it from a download source.
Once you have an usable (downloaded or disk-based) Windows installation, Apple's
Windows on a Mac Support page explains using Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp.
VMWare, Virtual Box, or Parallels Windows are other alternatives. This article may be of interest:

Aug 19, 2014 2:12 PM in response to JMSIEVby Roger Wilmut1,Do you mean a Panasonic Lumix? It probably has a small data output port and may have supplied you with a lead from that to USB. If you plug it into your Mac the camera should appear as an external disk and you can access the photos that way.
Alternatively digital cameras usually use SD cards and you can obtain a card reader and plug that into your Mac: some recent Macs have an SD card reader built-in.

Aug 19, 2014 2:32 PM in response to JMSIEVby LarryHN,many ways
however you have to provide details to get specific answers
in general all digital cameras are supported by iPhoto when shooting JPEGs if you want to use iPhoto - if you do not what to use iPhoto or if you are shooting RAW with an unsupported camera (the current RAW support list is here - OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats ) then you can use Image Capture (in your applications folder) to download your photos to disk and manage them however you please using what ever software you please
You also can use a card reader (may be built into your computer) or a USB cable to transfer photos
basically you need to tell us what the exact problem is and exactly what you have and what you want to accomplish - there are many variables and options and unless you tie us details we can only give very general help like adobe leaving you with much to figure out on your own
And yes you can run Windows on your Mac - but I see no reason to

Aug 19, 2014 2:43 PM in response to JMSIEVby léonie,I have bought a luminex camera but cannot download my pics onto my mac as I don't have windows.
If it is a Panasonic Lumix camera, it will have come with a USB cable to connect the camera to your Mac. Also, the SILKYPIX software will have been included, that lets you develop the RAW images, if you have been shooting in RAW format. You could use this software to export your photos in a lossless format, TIFF or PSD, if iPhoto does not the support the RAW format of your camera.
