How do you remove a contact from favorites on iPad?

I Added a contact to my favorites by accident and I don't want them in my favorites anymore.

iPad Mini Retina, iOS 7.1, 64 GB

While viewing the favorites list, swipe right to left on their name to get the delete button.

It only deletes from Favorites and not from contacts

On an iPad The Favorites List can be accessed in the Facetime App at the Bottom of the Contact List.

How is this done in iOS9? I also have some contacts on my iPad that have been marked favorites by mistake in a previous version of iOS already. It seems that favorites don't exist in FaceTime anymore...

I do not believe it's possible to add to or remove from, the Favorites list on an iPad anymore.

I don't have favorites on my iPad to dig deeper unfortunately, but i cannot find a way to add contacts to a favorite list. Even Favorite contacts from my iPhone don't seem to get synced to the iPad.
