I have a 2010 macbook pro. I last used it two night ago. When I tried turning it on last night, it gave me a black screen saying "no bootable device, please insert disk". Does this mean my macbook officially crashed? If so, is there a way to fix it? Can I send it to apple to at least retrieve the data?

Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should launch the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk. (v10.8)
Apple does not do data recovery.
If you can't boot using the Startup Manager, startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and reinstall OS X using S X Recovery
If your Mac came with an earlier OS X installed prior to v10.7 Lion, the install disc will not work. You must use OS X Recovery.
