Q: i keep getting random ads pop up underneath my google search bar ?

I am not sure if my macbook has a virus because i keep getting random things pop up underneath my google search bar and id like some kind of antivirus for my problems.....as i am not sure if it is critical ???? anyone help me

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

    From the drop down menu click:   Software Update



    Anti virus software is not necessary on a Mac. The pop ups are due to malware, not a virus. Do not click on advertisements in websites.
