OK - I tried some of the makers of USB memory sticks.
Kingston were hopeless and simply referred me to a huge document which talks about possible problems but does not mention USB memory sticks:

You may check the point number 9 " Electromagnetic Compatibility information to the user"
HOWEVER Corsair were much more straightforward about it . I asked:
"Hi - I have read lots about USB 3.0 "devices" potentially causing interference with wifi on some frequencies. I own a Macbook 2007. I am buying a new Corsaid USB memory stick... I know my Macbook wont get full use of the higher speeds. BUT it will help with moving data to other devices. BUT BUT is there a chnace the USB stick will interfere with my Macbook's wifi or bluetooth connections? thanks"
CORSAID SAID :
"Our USB drives do not emit any radio frequencies and therefore will not interfere with WiFi or bluetooth signals."
