Quark docs unknown error -disappear when saving - HELP!

Twice today I opened a Quark 6.5 document, made changes, went to save it and got an 'error type - unknown', the document closes and is GONE. First time it was completely wiped from computer, 2nd time I found it renamed in the trash. Even the original quark document I was working from was GONE from the hard drive. Anyone know what this could be? Is there any type of maintenance for tiger like there was for OS 9 (use to use norton utilities to prevent errors for OS9). Also have experienced quick keys quit working in Quark after a while...

Here is the email they sent:

Thank you for contacting Quark Technical Support.

For troubleshooting the problem I would like you to follow the steps given below.

“ Quit QuarkXPress.

“ Go to > Main H/D > Applications > QuarkXPress folder > make a new folder in there and name it “Preferences”.

“ Go to > Main H/D > Users > your user name folder > Library > Preferences > trash the Quark folder.

“ Go to > Main H/D > Applications > QuarkXPress folder > Xtension folder > move “Avenue.quark” “Font Retrieve” “Fontdownloading” “OPI” “QuarkCMS” to the xtension disabled folder.

Now launch QuarkXPress and see the results.

I hope this helps.
