Maps offline

Is there a way to save maps to use offline either on apple maps or google maps? I dont have the cellular model and also each time even on wifi, the app says cannot find location and is not able to find current location

iPad Air Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1.1

Unfortunatly Apple maps doesnt offer a tool as intuitive as google map’s offline mode ( you select an area in a big circle & download it ) where you can store all your frequent cities for offline use.


Step it up Apple... I just can’t promote such a design when there is clearly better options for saving data/battery.


Indoor guidance is cool but not nearly as much as true offline mode for several big areas.

Not with the built-in Maps app nor google maps, but you might find other mapping/navigation apps in your country's app store that have maps downloaded as part of the app.


But a wifi-only iPad doesn't have a built-in GPS chip (only cellular models do), so if you want to be able to use it to locate yourself when away from a wifi network then you will need a GPS unit - there are a number of external GPS units that you could get e.g. Bad Elf make some
