how to set an object placeholder in KN6

I'm a long time Keynote user and I thought I knew how to set an object placeholder but when I do in KN6 it appears in the master but doesn't appear in the slide.

In simple words, object placeholder behave as a invisible frame to charts and table. Once we define the object placeholder area, then we insert table or chart by click the icons, the table or chart will appear magically in the area we have marked before.

Let's try by these following steps:

1. Enter to Edit master slide mode
2. Create slide master name Chart and text
3. Tick on object placeholder checkbox and adjust it to the right size and place

4. Add text placeholder or etc.

5. Quit from Edit master slide mode

6. Create new slide using this master template

7. Insert Table/Chart via Icons on Toolbar or Insert menu

8. The object will appear on the placeholder area

I have had this question too. I have just found the answer via iWork '09: The Missing Manual: The Missing Manual (Preview version) on Google Books Personally, I have never considered I might need such books to complete my task. Now I might rethink again to discover these feature to make the most out of iWorks.

Thanks Gary, but I was referring to Object Placeholder not Text Placeholder.

view > edit master slide

select the master you want to use

Select "Object Placeholder"

close master slide view

The slide has no placeholder

The only way I could get it to work was to place an image in the placeholder in the master. Not a very elegant solution but it works.
I also tried placing a shape in the master, selected it and tried to ... Format > Advanced > Define as Object placeholder but it was greyed out

I just downloaded the latest version of bug fixes but still no luck.

Thanks anyway.

I was referring to Object Placeholder not Text Placeholder.

A text holder is an Object Placeholder

Use the procedure exactly as stated in my first post, you can then change colour, position size, and add text to the object on the slide master

Once you do this it will be available on the presentation slide

Select "Object Placeholder"

close master slide view

The slide has no placeholder

Follow my guide exactly as in my first post and it will work

I could get it to work was to place an image in the placeholder in the master

A Media Placeholder has different properties to an(Object Placeholder)

To create a Media Placeholder:

View > Edit Master Slide

select the master you want to use

place a still image or a video file on to the master slide

Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder

close master slide view

Format > Change Master: select the slide master with the new placeholder

drag and drop the video file you want to use in the slide

Thanks for you help Gary but I think you're misunderstanding my question.

I don't need to know how to create Text Placeholders. There are still plenty of options for this available.

The thing that isn't working is the simple Object Placeholder. I don't know if this has changed in version 6 (although the button is still there) but in version 5 and before, all you had to do have an empty image box on a slide was to select Object Placeholder in the master, size it as required and it would appear on the slides.

I don't know what makes you think you can create an image placeholder from a text placeholder but I don't think even Apple would think that was a good idea.

Anyway, thanks for your help.
Maybe someone else has the answer to this question.

For further clarity, here's a screenshot, if anyone can help. First in the masterUser uploaded file

Then in the slide... the text placeholder I created shows up but not the Object Placeholder
