Q: iMessage stopped working

Hi everybody,

 

iMeesage just stopped working this morning. I noticed my contacts were red instead of blue. Without any reason, the account had logged off... I tried to log in with my apple id as usual, but didn't work and received the message: Your Apple ID XXX can't be used to set up iMessage at this time.

 

I don't know why this happened or when.

 

I also read in the Console App:

 

21/08/14 17:34:03,391 Messages[481]: [Warning] Attempt to modify chat property: com.apple.iChat.Summary   which is not in the whitelist

 

Can anybody help me? I had never had any issue with iMessage and use it in a daily basis, so it's become a handy tool.

    Unfortunately, none of these steps listed helped me resolve the problem.

     

    I have however managed to fix the issue at last.

     

    The only way to fix it is to call Apple Support. Make sure you select Apple ID or iCloud as the device with the issue, otherwise you will have arguments with the support rep if your MacBook is out of warranty.

     

    Be sure to tell them the code in the error message and refer to it as the validation code instead of the customer code. It took the support rep I spoke with a while to find it until she researched validation codes. The support rep then was able to remove the block that was preventing iMessage from logging in.

     

    Hope this helps other people fix the issue too.

    HI

    I had the same problem today and the solution is to fix it iix to contact apple support with the code your receive once you try to connect to iMessage and in 2 minutes she will unblock your Apple ID. Apple block sometimes the ID when she se there is something wrong.

     

    Hope this helps other people having the same problem

    This "issue" originally appeared in Mountain Lion and Messages 7 which does mean the info to the front line contact people has somewhat dropped of their radar as it were.

     

    Please note MaaarkT's personal try a few days ago.

    Basically something at the Apple end "codes" or "Flags" your Apple ID that you are using in iMessages from the Mac.

    (the lack of the Serial Number on repaired/replaced Logic boards became a problem after the OS X 10.8.2 update)

    Whatever it is that is done the app gives you a code number but only Apple can change the settings on your Account.

    I just called Apple and they did their magic and iMessage is now working on my Mac.  Thanks for the help. 

     

    PS-This error seemed to coincide with me replacing my old iPhone 5 (that was falling apart) with a "new" one.  The day I put the new phone in service I could no longer access iMessage on my Mac.  iMessage worked on the phone and the iPad.

    Hi,

     

    As has been said  it seems to be something Apple Does to accounts when something concerns them.

    Whilst all devices have MAC (Media Access Card) numbers for WiFi and Ethernet (if it is a Mac) it seems logical that if one of these changed (they would on an iPhone even if the SIM card/Number was the same) that this might happen to the iPhone.

     

    Why it effects the Mac when the changes are elsewhere does seem odd.
