I am frustrated having paid for "Clean My Mac" which I run regularly and using tips like cleaning the cache in Terminal view. It is still getting slower. Can I clean off the disk and reinstall from my Time Machine, or will it re load the problem too? How do I do this anyway?

If you ran CleanMyMac that's most likely the reason you're having problems. Uninstall it immediately (and any antivirus apps you might have installed) according to the developer's instructions:

Reboot and check to see if there's any improvement in performance. It you still have problems you may have to Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system, second option in the menu.
Very helpful, but WHY is this popular cleanup prog likely to be the problem? I have IAntivirus too. Can this also be a cause as you imply? I will do as you suggest!
Because it is so poorly written, misrepresents itself and has greedy developers. The same goes in spades for MacKeeper. With a Mac one does not need any cleaning, optimizing or antivirus applications.
Marketing to the paranoid then! Destroyed and rebooted. Much better, but I may still have to go for second option. I have Time Machine otherwise I would be nervous about cleaning out completely. Thanks.
Reinstalling the system from the Recovery volume is very easy and painless. It only replaces system files and leaves your Home folder untouched. So if you have to reinstall the system it's not difficult or dangerous.;
