I know it can be very frustrating when your iPod is not behaving as expected. In this situation I would recommend reading over and using the troubleshooting steps listed in the attached article. The particular steps that I believe will be helpful to you will be the ones listed in the The Five Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore section.
