Q: Important to update firmware when going SL to Mavericks?
Hello all.
I've got a MacBook Pro 7,1 (mid-2010) that is running Snow Leopard. I want to upgrade to Mavericks. I was reading a series of articles on Macworld on how to prepare your computer for Mavericks and it mentioned updating to the latest firmware for your Mac. According to this Apple support document -- EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs -- my EFI Boot ROM version is out of date. Mine is MBP71.0039.B0B. The latest version is MBP71.0039.B0E. However, the system requirements for the latest version is OS X 10.7.2 Lion, which I don't have. I really don't want to purchase Lion in order to install Mavericks, which is free.
Long story short, is it going to be problematic for me to install Mavericks with my out of date EFI Boot ROM firmware?
Thanks.
Nick.
