Q: iPad Mail

I Have an iPad and a apple air book and on my airbook I can send and receive emails, but on my iPad I can only send emails.  It says it doesn't recognise my username or password.  I've only just had this problem with outgoing mail, it seemed to happen overnight.  Also how can I check my user name and password on outgoing mail, I have no problem at all on incoming mail.

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.5.8)
