Getting iPhone 5C out of Recovery Mode?

My friends gave me their old iPhone 5C so that I could bring it over to a straight talk plan. They didn't have it wiped and they had the Fine my iPhone set up on it. They gave me the password to unlock it but I couldn't connect to wifi because it was grayed out. After reading some forums I found out that you need to restore and update your iPhone to get the wifi option to work again. While trying to restore and update the iPhone it stops in the middle and gives me error message 1669. Now the phone is stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it to do anything!!! I have tried every tip out there from deleting iTunes completely and reinstalling. To the tricks with holding down the power and hold button at the same time. Please help!!!
