Can I add memory to my Ipad first generation? It will not load the newest IOS system.

I recently purchased an Ipad (first generation). It currently is operating on the 5.1.1. system. It will not support any upgrade to the most recent operating system. Is that because it does not have enough memory? If so, can I pay to have some memory added to it?

iPad, iOS 5.1.1

No. Hardware in an iPad is not user upgradeable. It has what it has and cannot be modified.

However you may be able to get compatible versions of Apps that require a higher iOS, by downloading the incompatible App to iTunes on a computer, and then using the same Apple ID, open the App Store App on your iPad and go to the Purchased Tab, and and search for the App you just downloaded on the computer there.

Tap it to start the download, it will tell you its not compatible, but if there is a compatible version it should offer it to you.

Since you are limited to iOS 5.1.1 on an iPad 1, this may be of interest.
