How can I get Skype back?

I own an iPod 4g, so it doesn't have the new iOS 7 and probably never will. Since it's older, some of my apps no longer get updates because updates aren't being made that are compatible with the older iOS. Because of this, the Skype app was giving me problems such as failing to send me notifications and only showing parts of a conversation that happened days ago. So I deleted the app and restarted my iPod, hoping that when I went to re-download the app from "Purchased", the problems would be solved. However, the app store only offered the most recent version of Skype, which I can't get because my iPod doesn't support iOS 7. I've tried everything that I could think of, but the download links just open up in the app store to the version I can't get. I don't know what can be done from our computer considering it's about 10 years old and isn't even an Apple computer.

Do any of you guys out there know of a way I can get it back?

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.3

Hey there iRemember,

It sounds like you need to download the latest version of Skype that is compatible with your phone. You should be able to do that with the following article:

App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app

Thanks to the App Store, you may still be able to re-download a compatible, earlier version of an app when you are using an older operating system.

Here's how you install an earlier version of an app:

  1. Open the App Store (with iOS 4.3.3 or later) or Mac App Store (with OS X Mountain Lion only).
  2. Go to the Purchased screen (iOS) or Purchases tab (OS X).
  3. Select the app you want to download.

If a compatible version of the app is available for your version of iOS or OS X, simply confirm that you want to download it. For example, after purchasing iPhoto for your iOS 7 device, you can install an earlier compatible version of iPhoto from your iOS 6 device.

Additional Information

Note: Some earlier versions of apps may not be downloadable from the App Store if the app's developer has chosen not to make them available. If you don't see the version of the app you are looking for, contact the app developer for more information. The developer's contact information can be found on the app's product page on the App Store.
