It could be too late..! But I had the exact same problem and here is how I managed to solve it:

  1. Unplug iRIG from computer.
  2. Plug headphones with mic that you know previously your computer recognises no problem to the iRIG.
  3. Plug iRIG with headphones and mic to computer.
  4. Unplug headphones from iRIG (if you want to...)

Voila!... It should now have been perfectly recognised by the computer via the headphone's mic and it will now work even if you unplug the headphones from it.

Hope this solves your problem too. Good luck!

Have you connected the iRig to the headset port? And does your Mac support the iRig?

To check if your Mac is compatible select: About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Audio

and check that "External Microphone / iPhone headset" is appearing on the list of included features.

Then your mac should recognize the iRig in the headset port.

Yes I connect IRig to headset port and output of IRig works correctly but mic input not works. If I use headphone with microphone works correctly and in audio preference output appears "headphone port", in input appears "microphone port", but with IRig the input remains "Integrated". I don't understand the problem with IRig. Help me! Thanks.

This is the top reasonable result for a google search of "irig macbook pro" and here's what finally worked for me:

- reduce strain on iRig by guitar cable etc hanging off it

- push it in and hold it for a bit in place to give Macbook Pro time to recognize it, you'll hear a little glitch of sound when it happens

that's it

PS irrelevant but perhaps useful stuff :

it was hit & miss for me until I did this last night finally, it had been a month without iRig connected (was using Rocksmith USB cable instead). It was a clean install of El Capitan and I couldn't use my iRig that had been working after some fiddling on Yosemite (MacBook Pro late 2013 which can use 3-stripe input/output miniplugs like the iRig for both input and output).

Another fun tip, hold down option before choosing volume when it is in menu bar (enabled via checkbox in sound settings panel) and choose which of your inputs/outputs to make active, including any ones you made in audio midi utility
