I purchased a hdmi adapter for Ipad2. After 5 hrs of it just not doing much my symptoms were. Device was showing up in settings. Ipad would stop it's sound when tv was plugged in. But nothing went on the tv. It said no signal. So I decided to plug cable into laptop to test it and maybe find a fault but it worked fine. Angry I plugged it straight back into adapter connected to Ipad saying.%$$#@W@!Q and to my surprise it worked. My guess is that the tv is waiting for the pad to make a move and the pad is waiting for the tv to make a move. Charge the line and somebody is tricked into working. This needs an explanation please?

Your not tech then Barry. it must be a simple problem with a power setting. One that can be changed on the iPad. This would explain why the problem is so common and linked to updates. Plugging my hdmi from laptop then to iPad continues to make it work. Someone must know how to chk the power settings.

No. But no one here has any way to know what's going on with your devices. We don't even know the brands involved, or the apps you're trying to use.

There is simply not enough for anyone here to go on.

If you want more specific answers then maybe you should poke around the support sites for your TV and whatever app you were using. Perhaps it's a known issue.
