Do not respond to this popup in any way. It's a scam to separate you from your money. Close Safari. Hold down the Shift key and relaunch Safari.

If you can't shut down Safari by holding down the Shift key, you can force quit:

Quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data

to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

The same malware was infecting my computer with a pop up for a 1 855 number to call. I was able to force quit but whenever I tried to relaunch Safari from the menu bar to follow your tip and "
Safari▹Preferences... ▹Privacy▹Remove All Website Data", the same pop ups came back and blocked my attempts. Please tells us how to do this step.

Since I had no internet and it was Saturday night, I was royally upset. Very mad. I counted with one night without internet before I was able to take my mac to the apple store and figure out something. So I decided to call the infamous scam number 1 855 420 8247 and tell them what I thought of their "business". I told them they were scam artists which translates into thiefs and prompted them to give up their jobs as crooks and make an honest living. Even more, give their lives to Christ. Fueled by my anger, I kept at it. When they disconnected me, I called again.

I felt that since they had put the malware and impeded me from engaging in my activities, it was fair that in their turn they would be derailed from theirs. All the time they wasted with me, was one less call they could receive from a victim.

This is a bogus company that call themselves proudly Windows Tech support or a similar high sounding name. They are not affiliated with any reputable company and they are obviously in India or a neighboring country.

In my many calls I encountered 3 people only, but more may be engaged int he operation. A "costumer representative" that doubles as manager and "boss" picks up the phone and each time has a different English sounding name: I got to speak with "John", "Edward Smith" etc. Strange name for someone with an Indian accent. The other distinctive voice was the "technical support", eventually they put me with a woman, which I assume was "John-Steven-Edward Smith"´s wife.

They do not allow blocked calls to go through so they quickly figured out my name. But this same people had called me a couple of weeks ago offering their services and asking me if I had a PC, thinking they were in the USA, I had told them to remove me from their list. But I digress.

They asked me what how could they "help" me, and thinking they wanted to help themselves to my money I retorted that they could´t help me, since they were dishonest crooks, but that I could help them: "leave that job, and find an honest employment".

The woman pretended to be a junior employee as offered to help me for free, which I refused. I refused any help from them. I would not give these crooks permission to fool with my computer. It is a different matter if they illegally gain access to it. Eventually I think they figured out where my computer was and the malware disappeared (they probably took it off) from my computer.

It is true that having the internet back took the air out of my wings and stopped calling them. It is also true that it left me with the uneasy feeling that they could put staff back in my computer, they could check my email, or online banking activity or who knows what, so I am looking into those free and reputable malware protections for macs.
