Startup Items

How do I stop startup items from opening at login? There is nothing checked or listed in the startup items, but Mail and MW for Mac open at startup. Also mail and word are unchecked in the desktop icons.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9), MB Pro, Iphone 5S, Ipad Mini

Open Users & Groups preferences, click on the Login Items tab. Select the apps you don't wish and click on the Delete [-] button.

Then you need to check:

/Library/LaunchAgents/ folder.

/Library/LaunchDaemons/ folder.

/Home/Library/LaunchAgents folder.

Did you check both Startup Items folders? One in the /Home/Library/ and one in the /Library/.

If this exhausts everything, then open General preferences and check the option Close window when quitting an app. Now shutdown the computer. Before it shuts down completely it should present a dialog:

User uploaded file

Uncheck the option.
