Aug 23, 2014 6:09 PM in response to CoreyIronby Carolyn Samit,Network preferences may be corrupted ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
See if that makes a difference.
Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

Aug 23, 2014 8:31 PM in response to CoreyIronby Bob Timmons,★HelpfulI attempted to update the firmware but was unable to do so as the menu options for AirPort Utility for Mavericks are limited.
If a firmware update is available for your AirPort router, AirPort Utility will display that option with an "Update" button.
If the "Update" button does not appear, your AirPort already has the latest firmware.
