Q: How do I update an airport base station with mavericks osx?

I updated to OX S 10.9.4 which worked fine.  Over the next few weeks I experienced wifi problems with my network wifi.  I attempted to update the firmware but was unable to do so as the menu options for AirPort Utility for Mavericks are limited.  How do I update my Airport Base Station and the extensions of my networks using Airport Express units?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Network preferences may be corrupted ...

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.

See if that makes a difference.

Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

If a firmware update is available for your AirPort router, AirPort Utility will display that option with an "Update" button.

If the "Update" button does not appear, your AirPort already has the latest firmware.

Thank you for your reply and assistance. I followed your advice after resetting the AirPort Express and the system now appears to be functioning properly.
