Go to System Preferences>Startup Disk, click on Macintosh HD, OS X 10.9.4 and then click on 'restart'. Doing this refreshes the link to the startup volume.

Aug 24, 2014 6:26 AM in response to santokh sby WZZZ,Boot up in Verbose Mode, Cmd-V at the startup chime. Verbose mode will show you the entire boot process as it's happening. Look for where it's hanging up. Might have a camera ready for this as you won't be able to do a screenshot.
Another thing to try is to open Console Utility, in Utilities, go to System Log and enter "BOOT_TIME" no quotes in the filter field(string matching). Note the time, then clear the filter field (string matching) and go to that time in the log, note the time stamps of everything after to see where there are unusually long entries.
Note, if the system log has been cleared, you might not see the latest boot up. There are archives of previous ones in /var/log, also in Console. Scroll all the way down to see those.
