Duplicate app can't delete files

Hello,

I have tried two apps that detect and delete duplicate files. Both will find duplicate files of all types, and then fail to delete them. I tried first with "Duplicate Detective" and thought it must be the application's fault; then I tried "The Duplicate Finder" and received the following message:

Failed to delete files

Please check their permission for removal.

Support the Duplicate Detective app reviewed my console logs and said that my computer from removing files in Users/"my name"/folder.

I tried repairing disk permissions through the disk utility and that didn't help. Any ideas?

I too have this problem. I've tried everything, even e-mailed FIPLAB with a screen shot showing the error, and an example of an unlocked file with admin permissions granted etc beside it. Their reply;

"Thank you for writing in, I'm very sorry to hear about this issue. Often times this message appears because the system refuses to allow Duplicate Detective to remove some files even though you have permissions to remove it. This is something we'd like to change in the future but we don't have a time frame yet since this is an issue with OS X."

Surely this is a HUGE drawback for such an app? This should be clearly mentioned rather than saying it is 'optimised for Yosemite'. I'm going to try and get my £2 back on principle alone as this is a pretty poor show.

Any developments - please let me know!

Thanks!

This has solved it for me;

Go into the app's preferences and uncheck the box beside 'Move deleted duplicates to Trash.

Worked perfectly after this, you just might need to be a little more careful that you don;t delete something important. I went back after doing this and checked all my large major projects, and nothing was missing so, for me at least, it seems to have been pretty reliable.

I've got to say that FIPLAB were excellent and e-mailed me virtually everyday with new things to try. They even sent me an updated version of the app and a test folder to download. they were extremely helpful.
