Hi All,

I have stopped updating adobe software b/c I read that the adobe update software inserts extensions into the mac software system, causing annoying/time consuming error messages when downloading new pdfs. I get adobe update notices 2-3x/week. What do you recommend? I use an iMac OS 10.94.

Try going to the hard drive level Library/Internet Plugins and delete the Adobe plugin from there. Safari, if that is what you are using, doesn't need Adobe for PDFs.

If you are referring to pdfs only and are using Adobe Reader to view them, then I would suggest uninstalling that and just use Preview instead.

Thanks RIFerrarr, but I don't just view pdfs, I download, print or save. So I need to be able to open them. My real question is "am I missing anything by not updating the adobe software?"

I am content to just delete the update notices.

Preview will do all that and is part of the OS.

With Adobe, if it's working, then it should be fine. See here

I will try Preview, would much prefer that. Adobe info is okay, but time consuming to figure out. Have you ever heard of these error messages, which block the pdf from opening and require a new "security document" be signed from the Adobe website?
