OMF- versus XML-Import/Export

Hello,

may anybody explain the advantages & disadvantages between OMF- and XML-Export/Import to me?

OMF is mainly used for audio from FCP to an audio finished station like Pro Tools. I believe if you have Automatic Duck software, it might use a more advanced export of omf data to do its thing. XML can import, export a lot more data including sequences, subclips and stuff like that and retain things like fx info, markers, aux timecode.... that's it in a nutshell.

An OMF can embed the audio in the file, so that the audio people not only get the information, but the audio files as well. An XML is information only...no footage.

FCP can import and export XMLs. It can only export OMFs...not import them.
