Out of order Ipod(under warranty), changed for a new one at apple store but battery half full? is it normal?

My appel touch 5thG did not work (still under warranty), so at the Apple store, they told us that they give us a new one, but coming back home, I noticed that battery was half full, so I guess it is not a new one. Is it normal, or should they give a new one? Thanks

Ipod Touch 5G

Thank you very much for your answer. But for other new apple ipod I already bought, Batteries were empty before initial use. This was already 50% full battery . So I think it is in fact nor an exchange for a new product, but a refurbished product. Indeed, the seller took the ipod from a carton box looking like refurbished. If it is the case, it would have been more honnest to tell that it was refurbished. Furthermore, I've asked him and he confirmed "no it's new..As it was one minute before store closing, I signed on the ipad without switching on the new Ipod touch for checking...

As number of battery cycles is limited, my doubt is mainly about how was used the battery before refurbichment : carefully that is following battery optimisation advises , or not. I don't know whether baterries are tested during refurbishment process.

I hope what I wrote could be understood, because I'm French and not used at all to speak english about such a subject...and also not very good for grammar.

Yes, Thank you very much,

Indeed I discuss with my son who is much more clever about technology and told me that li-ion batteries were always store half full...In fact I think I never looked the new products carefully, thinking batteries empty and doing like with old cadnium batteries that you had to prime 24 hours before first use...

Sorry for taking so much time to understand and thank you again. Furthermore I read that even refurbiched product have a new battery. So no more concern.

If you want to store your device long term, two key factors will affect the overall health of your battery: the environmental temperature and the percentage of charge on the battery when it’s powered down for storage. Therefore, we recommend the following:

  • Do not fully charge or fully discharge your device’s battery — charge it to around 50%. If you store a device when its battery is fully discharged, the battery could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding a charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may lose some capacity, leading to shorter battery life.
  • Power down the device to avoid additional battery use.
  • Place your device in a cool, moisture-free environment that’s less than 90° F (32° C).
  • If you plan to store your device for longer than six months, charge it to 50% every six
