Override/Reset password for g-drive slim/time machine?

Hi,

I have a G-drive slim and can't remember the password because I haven't used it in a long time. I checked the G-drive website, but the info I found on this problem wasn't very helpful:

Checked Apple Support and didn't find anything telling me how I could fix this. Anyone know how I can reset/override the password?

On the G-drive support site (linked above), someone had the same question I posted about a forgotten password. The response from G-Drive:

Is there anything I can do to reset it or something? The information on it can be erased if need be, I just want to be able to use it again!!!

Hi diddykong79,

Thanks for posting. If a password was placed on the drive it was from a third party software, usually from the Mac operating system. You should speak to apple about a way to bypass the password.

Of course, when I contacted Apple Tech, the "expert" I spoke to insisted that Apple has nothing to do with the password (obviously didn't read the info, I linked), and told me that Apple doesn't have access to personal passwords....::::sigh:::: of course no one at Apple is going to know or give me my password, I just want to reset it or override it, and I made that very clear. So very frustrating...I expect better customer service than what I just received.

So, the hard drive is connected directly to your Mac?

If that is the case, then you may have chosen the option to use a password to encrypt your Time Machine backups. If that is the case, I know of no way to retrieve that password. Perhaps another user might be able to help.

If you don't mind erasing the drive and starting over again with a new "master" Time Machine backup of your entire Mac, we can help with that. If you choose the option to use a password to encrypt your backups again, you might want to write that down.
