Q: iTunes Match unable to download songs from iCloud issue

I have a MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.4 and iTunes 11.3.1. I am having repeated issues with downloading songs from iCloud to my MBP. I have reset Match numerous times using the steps located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4054.

Then it works for a short time and I am able to download some songs and then suddenly I will get the pinwheel, the songs in iCloud will all show greyed out and then I am no longer able to download anymore. Repeat process.

I am about to try a test tethering to my iPhone's internet service to see if that improves things. So far, the only threads I have found on this topic have been related to Mountain Lion. So I'm not sure if this is a different issue I am seeing.

I also tried resetting the System Configuration to see if it would fix, but no luck: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4160355?start=90&tstart=0

Is anyone else experiencing this and what is the issue? Can it be fixed?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), iTunes 11.3.1

I see a similar issue with my iMac.  Roughly one third of my music library is stuck in the cloud with a permanent greyed-out "Waiting" shown for the track in iTunes.  Exploring the issue, I discovered that every single greyed-out track shows "Unknown" in the Sample Rate area (I added this field to my display to avoid doing an Info on each track).  I then ran iTunes from an external backup with the pre-iTunes Match library.  Every single track shows a Sample Rate of 44,100kHz.

That means that iTunes Match is stripping out the Sample Rate when it uploads some tracks (even variable within albums) and then it gets stuck when you try to play the track.

    Apple needs to fix this.

    Hi,

I don't think that you have a similar issue to OP.

Match does not strip out the Sample Rate. If tracks are matched, it shows the standard sample rate of 44,100 but unknown when tracks are uploaded (probably because Apple does not capture this on such tracks). If you have an iCloud status of "Waiting" and a blank sample rate, this suggests that the match / upload process was not completed.

If you have not already solved your problem, I suggest that you delete those tracks and then read them to your iTunes library. Once you have matched or uploaded them, you can delete from your hard drive but not the cloud.

Jim, my wording may have been misleading, but my point was that in my case the process of uploading my tracks to iTunes match caused a large portion of my library to no longer have a Sample Rate, and perhaps this is what also happened to DebbieKat.  Like her, I have gone through various suggested solutions like signing out and back in to iTunes Match.  By the way, this issue occurred while using Mavericks.  I am now using Yosemite Public Beta, and the issue persists.

Your suggested solution is not especially feasible, as I have close to 8000 tracks that are in limbo.  To hunt them down one at a time in my computer's Music library would take months, if not years.

And, I attempted a re-do of the Match upload process with a new intact library of 22000 intact tracks.  It completed with exactly the same number of greyed out "Waiting" in the cloud tracks, presumably the same tracks although I have checked only a few.

Searching the web for solutions, the only commonality I have found is that it seems to pertain to ⅓ of the library, whatever the size.

I was able to get a more stable connection to iTunes, apparently, by tethering to my cellphone. However, this is not a good long term fix as it used up almost an entire month's worth of data. I have a good solid connection and I have not had any issues with my modem or my router. I assume this is something that could be tweaked somehow?

I have a Motorola Surfboard modem / ASUS RT-N66U router. Have not had any issues with this combination. Comcast broadband.

Did you delete the "waiting" tracks before trying to redo the Match. As you have a separate new library, have to tried deleting everything from the cloud and the match library i.e. resetting match to zero (PS no need to delete iTunes purchases).

Once done you can open your other library and turn on match. Let match process complete, it should be quick as match remembers past uploads and matches.

Well, it wasn't especially "quick" as suggested, but following Jim's suggestions, I now have a more complete library than before.  After re-uploading the library from my backup, iCloud didn't seem able to handle my attempt to download everything at once (I have extra-high speed broadband internet with no constraints so I think it was the Cloud) so I spent several days downloading 300-500 tracks at a time, and now have just under 22,500 tracks in my library, with another 1800 or so that I have to reconnect the original track to my iTunes library, but that is somewhat better than my previous unreachable 8500 tracks waiting in the cloud.

Interestingly, iCloud once again showed "Unknown" for the Sample Rate for approximately ⅓ of the library even though the original library had a valid Sample Rate.  This time, so long as I limited my downloads to smaller batches, the Unknown Sample Rate didn't interfere with the process.
