keyboard shortcuts for specific colors of highlighter/unerline/etc. in Preview

I know [control] + [command] + [H] will highlight selected text, but I could save loads of time if there were a keyboard shortcut to highlight text with a particular color (e.g., blue, as opposed to yellow). Is there any way to set this up?

Apple has used an unfortunate term on the Insert > Highlight menu item. It is the author color in View > Comment and Changes. When you export your document, or print it in color, this color vanishes.

A true text highlight is the background color behind the text, as obtained from the Advanced Options > Character Fill Color. And no, there are no keyboard shortcuts for colors.

As Viking has pointed out this is possible manually in Pages and as with everything works better in Pages '09 than in Pages 5.2.2 but there is no way I can see to make a keyboard shortcut for it, as it is not a menu item.

You only way around this is to make a Character Style of text highlighted to the color/s you want and give that an F-key shortcut.

When you create the Character Style in Pages '09 you can click on Include these character attributes and unselect everything but the "fill" color so it only applies the color fill (highlighting).
