Q: How to reinstall bootcamp assistant

I went into utilities->boot camp assistant->show package contents->contents->Info.plist and changed some of the code and now boot camp assistant always quits unexpectedly when I try to open it. How do I reset this program or what can I do. I am trying to duel boot my mac to run windows 7 premium home 64 bit. I am trying to use a flash drive with windows 7 .iso file but I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I pay $60 for windows and I can't even install it. There are so many errors and stupid formatting crap to do and now boot camp assistant doesn't work. I watched some guy on youtube and followed him exactly and now my bootcamp is messed. Someone please help.

If you have a 2014 model, you should not need to modify the Bootcamp info.plist at all. What was the reason to modify it?

It kept on saying my windows iso isn't in 64 bit and wouldn't start the process.

Somewhere I read that modifying it would get me through this so I did.

Bootcamp info.plist does not control the 32-bit vs 64-bit ISO behavior.

argh I see... off to the wrong track from the beginning then... well, at least I've now got Win8 successfully installed.

Originally it was running win7 through VMware and a certain game wouldn't run, so I thought I'd try doing it through Bootcamp. Might work this way, fingers crossed!

now that I have win8 installed, I realised that I would need to resize the partition larger.

I read somewhere that you could use bootcamp to do so without loosing your data, is this true? I cant find that post anymore...

There is no supported method other than a remove and re-install.

From Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions - Apple Support

Can I resize the Windows partition after installing Windows?

No. Back up your important files, then use Boot Camp Assistant to delete the old partition and create a new one.

But, if you do plan to resize anyway, you can shrink the OSX partition, resize the Windows appropriately and use Testdisk and GPT Fdisk to reconcile the GPT and MBR.

Please see Help - Windows partition has vanished after OSX updates. as an example for using the two tools.

Your codesign command may be missing the --deep qualifier.

So I am having a similar issure, modified the info.plist for Boot Camp to try to enable USB booting,  I used Textwrangler to edit and save the file,  (at some point lost the original back up I made DOH!)  go into terminal and insert the line mentioned above both with and with out the --deep qualifier and the error that I keep getting is that BootCampAssistant.app: No such File or Directory Exists.  I am running OS X 10.10.4 (im pretty sure that comp is at home and Im currently at work) anyways its running Yosemite.  NOW is where it gets realllly fun.  due to circumstances I dont currently have internet access at home.  So I need to A.  either find a terminal command to undue whatever I have done, or B. Find some way to toss the Boot Camp Assistant install file on a flash drive so I can reinstall it maybe?  Anyone else run into this issue?  what are the suggestions to fix it?  I have an actual Win 7 X64 install disk now so If I can get boot camp back to its original working order I can just install that way I believe.  I also have on a flash drive all the relevant support files I need for OS X as well do I need to re burn my windows ISO to include those?

Sorry for the wall of text there, First time ive had a Mac for personal use and Im finally learning all of this, (PC nerd dont hate me)

One method to get the original file back is to re-install OSX (which will leave your non-OS files untouched). Use OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support and try Local Recovery first.

I got this message when I entered the code in to Terminal (I'm having the same problem as the above folks re Boot Camp):

    sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\Camp\Assistant.app

    Please use

sudo codesign --deep -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\Camp\Assistant.app

Type your password when prompted, it will not be echoed back to you, and then press return/enter.

    Hi,

Just looking to see if you could help me as well. I was stupid and tried to change my bootcamp file and it got more complicated as I went on. Anyways, I tried the

    sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app

    command and received

/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature

/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: code object is not signed at all

In subcomponent: /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/Info copy

    Then I tried

    sudo codesign -fs --deep - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app

    and received

    --deep: no identity found

    Terminal copy.jpg

    Infoplist copy.jpgContents copy.jpg

If you know of a solution, or a process to get me back to where I began it would be very helpful!!!

In the last command with --deep you do not have spaces correctly. It should be

    sudo codesign --deep -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app/

    Password:

/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/: replacing existing signature
