videos not playing in safari

Hi,

For some time now, I have not been able to watch videos online in safari and i cannot figure out why. Youtube and other select video sources work fine, but other just show up as a black box and never load. See this example video that only shows up as a black box on my computer http://www.nytimes.com/video/theater/theaterspecial/100000002903814/in-performan ce-jessie-mueller.html

I am current;y running Safari 7.0.5 and OS X 10.9.4

Can someone please help me figure this out!

I have tried emptying my cache, reinstalling Flash, everything!

Thanks!

Hilary

Hi,

I could be wrong but I believe the problem is because the video you are trying to view are embedded in the site. The developer who made the site probably didn't use what is called a "fallback" basically that means that if one file type doesn't work, then another is used in its place. I have had problems with mp4's not working in Safari. Unfortunately as someone trying to view the website, there is nothing you can do. YouTube works because they are smart and create fallbacks for the uploaded videos!

Hope that helps ease the frustration at least a little bit. 😐
