Q: how do I boot my Mac Pro to recovery mode

Apple Article to reset the password for 10.6.8 and earlier, and 10.7 and later should help.

P.S. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to verify your operating system.

Welcome to the 'Dark Side' (of the Moon or Siths - take your pick).

Recovery was only introduced in Lion so it does not exist for Snow Leopard where using 10.6 DVD would be first step or booting from another system.

Recovery mode is available to older Macs with Lion or later installed if they install this firmware (if their machine is listed on the firmware page):

You both, in almost same words,

To which, a system won't have Recovery Mode available and isn't present.

"in Lion or later" and "requires Lion and is not available to Snow Leopard"
