Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall, turn on and leave all sharing ports unchecked you don't need.
Install anti-virus software for any Microsoft Windows operating systems you have installed within their virtualized environment.
Do not use peer2peer or torrent download sites.
Do not install Mac optimization software.
Backup your data regularly, especially prior to any software install:
Backup now, or forever hold your peace
Do not trust popup windows asking you to install something, or banner ads or e-mails. Always verify directly on the developer webpage for updates or the Apple Mac App Store.

Aug 28, 2014 8:19 AM in response to a brodyby a brody,And if using WiFi (Apple Airport) be sure to 802.11g or higher speed protocols with WPA2 encryption. Depending on your wireless router, configuration details may vary.
