Q: Bitdefender - how long does it take to scan entire system?

Been advised to do this, that's fine. It's been running half an hour. Does anyone know how long it'll take in total? I'm not a huge fan of leaving my Mac on overnight but I will if I have to. Any advice gratefully received.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

The issue is solely whether you want your Mac and your iPhone etc to keep the same calendar, if you only want the calendar to be on your Mac then there is no need to put it in iCloud.

The ability to check my current calendar on anything with an Internet connection and a browser is useful to me. Not to mention everything else carried by iCloud.

I only have this one thing - no iPhone (and little interest in my phone’s calendar anyway!) so I guess the answer is that it’s all ok. I’m only ever online on my Mac. I did think it would be useful to put my iTunes library on iCloud but I don’t think you can do that for free - it can only automatically put on purchased downloads, of which I have almost none! It’s half downloaded not from iTunes and half ripped from CDs. I think perhaps I'm not clear on what exactly iCloud can do for me as a backup that TM doesn't already do

iCloud can do nothing for you as a backup, because it is not a backup. TM is the backup (or one of the backup) options available, I keep clones as well as TM, I can reboot and be working again from a clone in 3 minutes flat, restoring TM (and possibly replacing a drive) takes all day long.

Then there is little value in iCloud for you, it's a superb way of keeping multiple devices synchronized, pointless with only one.

Correct, to put your music library into the iTunes cloud would require iTunes Match, which is not free (£20 per year I believe).

Having a Mac Mail issue and you are my last hope so I came back to this old thread! Basically, I can't send mails. This has never happened before. I talked to the tech dude at the client I collect/send mails for and he is stumped. I can receive mails fine. The mail servers are greyed out, and that can't be right. Here's the message I get when I try to send:

When I try to send it sits in the outbox for 20 seconds and then pops up with that photo. Here's another grab that may be useful.

I have iCloud set up now and that *does* work. Here's the accounts panel, it just says 'offline'. No idea why! Help!

Am tagging you, as it were, here also in the hope that you have some ideas on why Mac Mail won't use the Ignite server to send. x
