Q: My apple ID has stopped working on Ipad and Iphone

Hi guys.

I'm having the first issue in years of owning apple products. recently I changed my apple ID Password on the PC and changed the main email for my account. I assumed this would update on my Ipad and Iphone but it hasn't been the case. Now on both products it tells me that my ID is not recognized [retry/cancel textbox appears]. I have tried signing out of my itunes on both devices and tried logging on again with my updated info but the same text box appears and I dont know what else to try now.... Any help on this soon would be fantastic thanks

    Hi twoody291,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

When you change your Apple ID (email address) and password on any of your devices, that information does have to updated on your other devices. What you have done for troubleshooting the iTunes and App store on your devices is correct by signing out of the old account and signing into the new one. It sounds to me though like we need to get you signed out of iCloud as well from the old account information. If your old Apple ID (email address) is signed into iCloud still, you will actually need to edit your Apple ID back to the old email address, no need to change password again, so you can delete that account (You will have the option to keep information on the iPhone or delete it after you choose to delete your iCloud account, be sure to keep it on the phone). Once the account is deleted from Settings > iCloud on your devices, I suggest signing out of all services on your devices including FaceTime, iMessage, and iTunes and App Store. Once signed out of everything, edit your Apple ID back to the new email address and then sign into all services again.

Please use the following article as a reference and for steps on how to temporarily edit your Apple ID back to the original so you can sign out of iCloud

    Change your Apple ID temporarily

If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:

    1. Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
    2. Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
      • Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
      • Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
      • Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
    3. Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
    4. Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.

    Have a great day,

    Joe
