IPOD 5th Generation (LATE 2006) not seen by itunes

I managed to connect my ipod to my HP laptop running Windows 7 - 64 Bit, it shows the 'Do Not Disconnect' message on the ipod screen. the iPod hasn't been running for a while (over 2 Years).

Now my iTunes cannot see the device, Help.
