Q: Why does Safari download PDF files twice?

I have Safari (7.0.6, running on Mavericks). Whenever I open up a URL that is a PDF file and then save the file, TWO windows pop up and ask me to save the PDF file. Is there any way to fix this behavior? (It's not vital to fix it; the situation is more annoying than harmful.)

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

The second screenshot shows the Safari save dialog. The first one shows a dialog created by some third-party software that you added. It's either a web plugin or a Safari extension. Ask if you need guidance to find it.

    Delete Cookies

     

    Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:

    Click “Remove All Website Data”.

     

    Empty Caches

     

    Safari > Preference > Advanced

    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".

    Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.

    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.

     

    Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.

    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

    I click on Command-S, and I get the following drop-down window:

    Then I cancel or save, and the following window pops up:

    See the Adobe Reader floating panel under your last image? There is a disk icon located on the left. Click that to save the PDF, and cease the command-S activity.

    That worked. In case anyone else wants to fix it, what I did was open up the .plist file for the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI and deleted all the dictionary entries right after the line

     

    <key>WebPluginMIMETypes</key>

     

    Safari can still view the PDF file (using Previewer, I guess) and only saves it once.
