Q: My mac mini 2009 will not power on nor will the power light come on . There are no issues with the power cord since it works with other mac minis . Can anybody suggest a solution  at least for backing up the data? Thanks

My Mac mini will not power on and the power light does not come on. Only  the fan starts . The power cord is fine. Using the trouble shooting options in the guide did not work . Can any body help At least to suggest how to back up the recent data ,

The Mac mini 2009 has an external power supply (a white brick). Have you tried swapping this as well as the power cable?

Other than that, if indeed both the power brick and power cord are proven to be fine, then it is likely to be the logic board. In which case other than replacing the faulty logic board your only option is to remove the hard disk from inside the Mac mini and put it in an external drive enclosure or use a USB to SATA adapter.

Try the steps at > Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on if you have not tried that.

If that does not help and you have access to another Mac...?

    1. Try > FireWire target disk mode to see if you can access the Hard Drive and recover your User files.

    2. Remove the Hard Drive from the Mac Mini, put it into an External Enclosure or plug in into a Universal Drive Adapter and see if you can access the Hard Drive that way.
