Q: how do you remove unwanted echo in FCE 4.01

Recorded audio with a good sony wireless mic in a room that didn't have much in it to absorb sound, the audio is great except that it sounds like it was recorded in a large hall or something. I'm editing with FCE 4.01 on a macbook with OS 10.7.5 and I'm not very familiar with audio filters, can someone give me some tips on how to get rid of the echo? I really would appreciate it.

Thanks

    You can't.

You could spend ages fiddling around with various filters and might achieve some marginal improvement but it is still going to be bad.

I don't have a copy of FCE in front of me, and it has been a few years - but look in the audio filters for a filter called Expander/Noise Gate.

What this does is make the loud sounds louder (your microphone) and the quieter sounds quieter (the echo).

It will take some time to adjust the controls to best effect, and always remember that when processing audio, the cure is sometimes worse than the symptoms.
