why did I receive a Viber access code on my brand new iPhone 4S when I never signed up for Viber? In fact, when I received the sms, I used the search function on my iPhone to see where it could be hidden, and the only results where the two consecutive texts I received giving me identical access codes.

You can block the number on the iPhone by tapping details on the message thread, then the i on the right hand side, then Block This Caller at the bottom 🙂
Oops, I just went into the message and there is no "i" where to block the number that sent me the access code. What do I do now? (sorry, but I am a true techno-idiot). Never mind, just found it and blocked it. Thanks for all your help, Belly114. Have a great long weekend, wherever you are. 🙂
I haven't called Viber. I am a new iPhone user (just made the move to the 21st century and got my first smartphone this week), so it is very disconcerting to have this happen.
is there a way to stop the calls and texts, though? other than contacting Viber? I don't want to call them and give them my number and have them complete a transaction I never signed up for.
Someone has signed up for Viber with your Phone Number or EMail address.
Belly114 - so I shouldn't have anything to worry about if I simply delete the text? There is nothing going on behind the scene? Except as Pogster suggested, that someone entered the wrong number when they signed up for their own Viber?
My mistake, on the message thread click Contact and then a dropdown appears, then click 'i' and Block This Caller at the bottom - sorry about that, i'm running iOS 8 and didn't realise there was a change there!
How? I am the only person to have access to it. And I keep it locked (auto-lock after 1 minute). And I keep my data off.
No - someone has signed up for Viber and must have mistyped their phone number - you can sign up for Viber from different devices.
When you asked Viber what did they say?
Would this be why I received an access code by sms but cannot find anything else Viber-related on my phone?
