Q: Consistent spinning beachballs (in Pages, numbers, preview, etc.)

I have an early 2008 imac, running Mavericks.

I can open existing Pages and Numbers documents and everything seems to work fine. (using Pages 5)

But I can't open a new blank document in Pages or Numbers. (I get spinning beachball, 99%+ cpu, must force quit)

Also I can use preview to open any document (pages, numbers, text, jpg), but if I try to export as pdf, it freezes using 99%+ cpu, and must be force quit.

I deleted and reloaded Pages, also reloaded Mavericks. it didn't help.

I replaced the containers and preference files. No difference.

Fontbook did find like 100 warnings in my 800 fonts, no errors though.

Other weirdness: Quicktime has lots of weird behavior - opening windows for previously viewed videos, cursor unable to operate the controls or close/minimize windows) I have to use quicktime player 7 instead.

I suggest you remove the "Insolent" font, which doesn't seem to be working.

Thank you! There is now progress!

Yesterday I deleted all the problem fonts with FontBook, so I assumed that font was gone. When I looked in Fontbook, It wasn't listed. But then I typed it into spotlight and 2 truetype fonts files came up. I deleted them and restarted. Now, for the first time in weeks, I was able to open a new Pages and Numbers file. I typed a little test info in and then tried to save. The files saved! And then either program becomes unresponsive (using 0%cpu) and they had to be force quit.

Unfortunately when I try to open an existing doc with pages (created with pages or not), nothing happens (It doesn't try to open it at all). No messages on console. It will open any of the document templates though. Pretty weird.

When I try to save, console says:

8/31/14 10:58:21.930 PM Pages[1186]: Layout still needs update after calling -[TSDScrollView layout].  TSDScrollView or one of its superclasses may have overridden -layout without calling super. Or, something may have dirtied layout in the middle of updating it.  Both are programming errors in Cocoa Autolayout.  The former is pretty likely to arise if some pre-Cocoa Autolayout class had a method called layout, but it should be fixed.

Maybe not progress... If I try to open any file (pdf, jpg, pages, etc.) in Preview, it just hangs. No console messages.

It's ALL FIXED (as far as I can tell). Since I figured I had nothing to lose, I tried Onyx (I had tried it a few times before, but it was one of the programs that wouldn't run at all; it would just hang.) and now it worked. I performed all the maintenance scripts and cleaned all the caches, and restarted. As far as I can tell, everything is now working. I tried many different files with Pages, Numbers, and Preview, and it all seems to be working again.

Thanks again for all your help.
