How do I update my apple ID for find my iphone when it is linked to an old deleted email address that is not recoverable

You may need to temporarily change your Apple ID back, sign out of iCloud on your device, then revert the change to your Apple ID.

1. Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
2. Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
   • Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
   • Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
   • Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
3. Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
4. Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.

Follow the instructions provided. Sign on the Manage your Apple ID and change your current Apple ID email address back to the old address - do not verify it. Then activate your device using your current Apple ID password. Then change it back to the new email address under Manage your Apple ID and verify it.

it IS a totally separate apple id, i had stated the apple id I am trying to recover is connected to a non recoverable email account...so here's the whole situation in entirety, my phone said it had been upgraded after i had not accepted or wanted or even gone into settings and clicked on update, then it said it would take a second to activate, it asks for my apple id, which i entered and retyped the password until i figured it would lock me out, so i go to manage my account and i sends it to an email that i havent used in two years, no longer have the password to, and instead of asking for security questions it asks about what sort of emails i have in the account which has been opened in 2 years. so i make a new apple Id account, that does not work either. so my phone is completely locked out and unusable, my email is unrecoverable, and my apple id, old or new does not work, i figured apple would have a protocol for un-assigning account to a phone or changing an email after being hacked. this has all been very stressful and im sorry for the attitude, but my apple id and iphone being hacked has made me reconsidering if i want to continue using apple and its software

This is a tried and true solution to removing an iCloud account signed on with an old Apple ID email.

Are you certain that the ID you are attempting to EDIT your current Apple ID to is not a totally separate Apple ID, rather than one you used on your current ID previously?

Not sure what you mean by "non-recoverable" email account. Is the Apple ID associated with that email locked out in some way? If it is disabled, then you will have to contact Apple Support to get help. The problem is that you did not clearly explain what your issue was. Many people have gotten stuck the way you are now stuck by changing their Apple ID to a new email address, but failing to remove their iCloud account prior to doing so.

You still have not clearly explained what has happened. You updated your device - OK. Updates, in and of themselves, do not require any sort of "activation". A restore would do that. Did you restore your device? Are you saying that your device is signed onto an old Apple ID? Just provide a step by step explanation of what you have done, what you have encountered, and what you need to happen.

If your email was "hacked", you would go into Manage your Apple ID and edit your Apple ID email to a new email. It's that simple. Creating a new Apple ID does not resolve the situation - it only complicates it. So, at this point, I'm not really sure what you are describing or what the issue currently is.

i cannot connect to my previous email my apple id account is linked to and my phone will not activate with out it, i cannot recover my email account or log into my apple id.

now it says it cannot use my old adress to log on to apple id, Im assuming I was hacked and that its gonna take some sort of override to allow me to log back in, would i be correct in thinking so?

OK, but are you getting this message after you log onto Manage your Apple ID with your current Apple ID, and then click on the EDIT button to change it to the old ID?
