Q: Book stuck in Download

I just purchased a book and the download hung up.  I tried exiting and restarting iBooks, Restarting the Mac, Removing the book from iBooks and re-downloading.  Nothing works.  Any idea how to do a complete reset of iBooks?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

I should mention that whenever I try to download I get a pop-up box telling me that the item will be available in my Library after downloading completes.  Its not a big book, only 25 MB.

Thanks Linc, but that doesn't really answer the question.  I know to try all of the basic stuff first.  The problem is that iBooks on the mac is not downloading anything, but behaves like it is.

Do you know how I can completely reset the program to a new state and just redownload my library?

Back up all data. Quit iBooks if it's running.

Hold down the option key and select Go Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:

              Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService

              Containers/com.apple.iBooksX

Log out and log back in. Launch the application and test.

Thanks Linc.  I renamed those files and moved them, logged out and back in, and launched iBooks.  It still will not download the new books.  When it tries, the download ends in error with no error code.  It won't even let me sync them from my iOS device because it says they are being downloaded.

I am not seeing anything in the system log from trying to download.   I see some storeaccountd messages that indicate its accepting a connection, there is one ADI entry that looks like it contains a bunch of download settings, but nothing indicating an error.  There is also a com.apple.CommerceKit.TransactionService entry showing me trying to redownload and the download failing - but no error message.

At the same time of the download attempt, there are a bunch of iBooks entries that seem to relate to my different collections.  There are some other messages from the startup that indicate it was resetting the library.

Any other ideas where to look before I write up a bug report?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I finally got this.  I restored the files that I had removed before.  Inside both packages I deleted the files in the saved state folder, then re-launched.  Everything worked beautifully.

Sorry, I Didn't see this before I solved my problem.  I restored the packages I had deleted in our previous try and deleted the entries in each in the saved state folder and relaunched.  Everything started working beautifully.
