MacBook Pro and dell monitor doesn't work

I have a dell sm2340m monitor. Works great with my dell laptop from work. Connect it to my macbook pro, and I get nothing. Connected via DVI. If I remove the cable, the laptop recognizes that it's been disconnected but it still won't show up when reconnecting.

This is ridiculous. After seeing so many posts about it stopping working after software updates, I can only assume this is some stupid OSX crap. Might be time to find audio programs I can run on Windows.

Are you using a straight DVI to DVI cable? What resolution is the monitor? A 2006 model can only drive a maximum of 1280 x 800 res.

I had a similar problem. Dell monitor, DVI to Thunderbolt adapter. I finally realized that the DVI cable had slipped just couple millimeters from the back of the monitor (which happens periodically if I don't screw the fasteners tightly, since the connector is oriented downward... dang gravity). I tightened the fasteners and everything works.
