Safari and Google Chrome not working on my Mac

All other devices are working but on my MacBook Pro I am getting the following messages on all websites:

Safari: "Safari can't open the page (e.g.) "http://www.bbc.co.uk/news" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes and then try again."

Google Chrome: Webpage is not available. It may be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error Code: ERR_Socket_Not_Connected"

This has got worse and worse starting with Facebook on safari until now no websites work on either safari or google chrome. Please help!

Ok.. I was hoping you had a backup browser installed.

Try troubleshooting Safari extensions.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

I can open that link on my Mac running v10.9.4 fine.

Except for Facebook?

Try the following:

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Then delete the cache.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
