Can I Burn an .mp4 to make a DVD?

I'm having trouble making a DVD from an .mp4 file. Is it possible to burn an .mp4 file to a DVD? I need such a disc to be able to play in a DVD player. I could do it in previous Mac OSX's but can't seem to on Mavericks.

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Are trying to create a video DVD? What authoring app are you using? iDVD, Burn, ....???

With iDVD I've had no problems creating a video DVD form a .mp4 video file.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

First welcome to the discussions, next the most important you must use top of the line in blank discs.

Next, you must have a DVD program like Roxio,s Toast that will allow you to change the format, and the ability to change the format you want to use.

That. Will give you the software, Just make sure you use good media, like Verbatim, or Tayio Yuden.
