Sep 1, 2014 5:35 AM in response to macmesseby King_Penguin,I haven't had any problems with my btinternet account on 7.1.2 - you've tried deleting and adding the account back, using the new BT email settings :

Yes, tried your suggestion several times and followed the BT instructions on the link you provided. Alas, no joy. Even had one of my company's IT people try the step-by-step procedure with no luck. Thanks, Mac

Sep 3, 2014 9:04 AM in response to macmesseby King_Penguin,If you set it up by selecting Yahoo as the account type on the setup screen does that work - I'm not sure if BT have moved all of their accounts off Yahoo yet.

Sep 4, 2014 6:18 AM in response to macmesseby King_Penguin,Checked to see whether you are still in Yahoo, or whether you've been migrated over to the new service : http://diagnostics.bt.com/login/?workflow=EmailChecker&s_intcid=helphero_email_c hecker
If you've been migrated then Yahoo possibly won't still work, but the new BT steps should - I've just tried deleting my account and adding it back and those steps work ok. Are you able to add the account using those settings and it's when trying to send/receive emails in the Mail app that you get an error, or is it during the adding of the account ?
If you've been able to add the account with the new set up then tapping on the account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then tapping on the id on the next screen should give you a popup - on that screen I have the Incoming mail 'Host Name' as 'mail.btinternet.com' with my email address and password below it, and the Outgoing SMTP is also 'mail.btinternet.com'. The Advanced button/link below that has 'Use SSL' 'on', Authentication as 'Password', IMAP Path Prefix blank, Server Port 993

Configuration problems with IMAP e-mail on iOS with a non-standard SSL port.
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Nov 1, 2014 10:50 AM in response to King_Penguinby annafromnewton abbot,I was going to delete the BtYahoo account but it tells me it is linked to other apps/accounts. What I need to know before I do this is what is the implication of deleting BTYahoo if it is has links?
The trouble here is that Apples' IOS upgrade happened, at least for me, simultaneously! So it was very difficult to know where the exact problem lay. Apple appears only to recognise BTYahoo for IMAP. Help!

iTunesWhere are you seeing a message that it is linked to apps/accounts ? Deleting an email account from the Mail app via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars should not affect anything apart from removing that email account from the Mail app

Nov 2, 2014 8:15 AM in response to King_Penguinby annafromnewton abbot,I have deleted the account using System Preferences. Have set it all up again.
Information on Mail Connection Doctor reads as follows:
Connection Status: Green dot Mail was unable to connect to the internet
Status Account Name Account type Details
Wheeling BT btinternet.com.... Connecting to server....
Red dot Btinternet Yahoo IMAP Trying to log in to this Yahoo! IMAP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct.
Green dot iCloud iCloud IMAP Connection and login to server succeeded.
So you know the SSL box is not ticked.
I have lost all the mail into my btinternet mail box now! I can't send mail by BTinternet or by iCloud.
Where is the problem? With Mail or BT?

Nov 2, 2014 8:30 AM in response to King_Penguinby annafromnewton abbot,Additionaly, I tried to edit my reply but. . . .
So to answer your question when I clicked on the minus to delete the account is when the message popped up.
Additionally, i have an iPad and a iPhone 5c upgraded from 4S on 31 October and they can't do anything in mail either!

iTunesAs you are referring to System Preferences I assume that you are using a Mac, not an iPad.
Do you know if you have been moved over to the new BT email, which isn't Yahoo ?

Nov 2, 2014 11:04 AM in response to King_Penguinby annafromnewton abbot,Firstly, yes I was talking about the iMac but I also have an iPad and an iPhone 5c upgraded from a 4S on Friday 31 October.
In desperation I decided to go back to BT:
BT has escalated the iMac Mail problem at their end. The issue appears to centre around the fact that Yahoo is in the list of email providers and even though the selection allows one to enter another when one inputs the details for BT Apple Mail still recognises BTYahoo IMAP instead of IMAP.
BT are to ring me in about 24 to 48 hrs with an answer for iMAC.
We looked at the iPhone, too, and that was successfully inked to email. Not only that it was tested to send mail, too. I said 'Yahoo' when it came thru and laughed and said 'BT'!
Cant put my hand to the iPad but I am hoping it will be resolved, too shortly.
Thank you for the BT Customer Help link. I had tried that but to little avail as I had undertaken all that and was slowly going dizzy from the circularness of the problem.
I have an appointment with Apple "Genius" in Exeter on Monday and will report back after that and my response from BT.
Thanks for your time and patience everyone.

Nov 3, 2014 10:46 AM in response to annafromnewton abbotby annafromnewton abbot,Thank you guys for your help.
BT have helped to resolve the issue, but it appears still a little unstable so they are going to call me back on Friday to confirm that things are working fine. One of the things I tried was using the email address I have with iCloud as a get around: but I can't honestly report whether that worked because it went via apple's system of BT. However it enabled me to send emails when I couldn't use the BT address.
One thing BT said was if (and only if it continued) to try changing the password! But I think that really will be a desperate measure.

Nov 22, 2014 2:23 AM in response to macmesseby drmjf,I had this problem - the answer which worked for me (having deleted and restored the account to no avail) was this;
1. Go to [Settings] - [Mail, Contacts, Calendars]
2. select the Email Account at fault (if you have several) - mine was labelled Btinternet
3. Having selected this, it was labelled at the top IMAP, select the Email Account [name@btinternet.com]
4. Scroll down to OUTGOING MAIL SERVER SMTP and select [mail.btinternet.com]
5. select PRIMARY SERVER, which should be labelled [mail.btinternet.com]
6. Delete the existing Password and enter it again, select Done. The account should be Verified. Return via [<Account] [Done] [<Mail] [<Settings]
Once I had done this the outging mail worked for both my iPhone 5 iOS 8.1.1 and iPad 2 iOS 8.1.1
I had tried reinserting the password at the end of stage 3; IMAP ACCOUNT INFORMATION but this did not work. Why it should work on the next page is a mystery. I do not think the fault is entirely that of BT but can any iPhone expert explain why re-inserting the password one stage later should solve the issue?
